History of Bobla Waterfall

According to the oral traditions of the indigenous people, in ancient times when the Cham people ruled, they forced the locals to pay tribute with animal skins, buffalo horns, deer antlers... and even elephant tusks. Once, with his intelligence, the chief of the tribe near the waterfall found a pair of elephant tusks so tall that "a horse couldn't jump over them in time" and offered them to the king. The Cham king loved them so much that he named these tusks Po Pla, and the waterfall also acquired the name Po Pla. In the Co Ho language, Bo means mountain, and Bla means elephant tusks. This is also how Bobla Waterfall is pronounced.

What makes Bobla Waterfall attractive?

A waterfall with a wild beauty

Bobla Waterfall is picturesque, nestled amidst vast ancient forests, home to hundreds of rare plant species. On both sides of the waterfall are lush moss-covered rocks and old trees hanging over the falls. Below the gently flowing waterfall are large granite rocks. All these elements create a scene that is both wild and enchanting.

Bobla Waterfall

Lien Dam is a mispronunciation of Liang Dam – the name of a talented young man who saved the people of Liang Jrak Mur village from the Cham invaders. Once, when Cham soldiers attacked the village, everyone fled in fear, but Liang Dam did not die. He broke a branch from a myrtle tree by the waterfall and pointed it towards the enemy. Strangely, wherever the myrtle branch broke, the Cham army was defeated. After the invaders were gone, Liang Dam quietly walked towards the riverbank and left, with no one coming to thank him.

Symbol of the mountainous region of Da Lat

The ethnic minorities living in the Da Lat region consider Bobla Waterfall a symbol of indomitable spirit, a symbol of the mountain people, and the homeland of Liang Dam.
